Routes and Maps

We guess that you'll already know your local area quite well, but if you've recently moved or you want to cycle elsewhere, there are map websites to help.

Our favourite is Cycle Streets [1] which covers all of the UK. We particularly like that:

  • it rates how busy the route is likely to be;
  • gives you an elevation profile of any hills; and
  • tells you how much of the route makes use of footpath shortcuts down which we dismount and walk.

Maps from the council

Both Guildford Borough Council [2] and Surrey County Council [3] have maps specifically for cyclists. And tourist information offices are likely to have paper copies of these and similar maps - don't forget to pretend you're a visitor to the area ;-)
